What do you call a place that mixes the absolute best of Southern charm and hospitality with a vibrant, active city? Wilmington, NC of course!

Though Wilmington’s first inhabitants were Native Americans of the Algonquin speaking tribes, the first European settlers to arrive saw the possibilities of its locations for ships arriving and departing and for defense.

Wilmington is still a very active port city but it has grown beyond that. One of her nicknames is Hollywood East. And with good reason. Many of today’s movies and TV series are set in or shot in and around Wilmington. Series such as One Tree Hill, Sleepy Hollow and movies like Ironman 3 were filmed here. Such luminaries as Sandra Bullock have spent time in Wilmington working.

    UNCW

For those desiring a career in Marine Biology, UNC-Wilmington is one of the few institutions of higher learning with such a program. And Cape Fear Community College actually has a floating classroom! Let’s not forget students who desire to spend downtime on the beach or on their surfboards.

Older kids who are well into their 50’s and 60’s like to do those things, too. So, can you think of a better location than Wilmington knowing that Wrightsville and Carolina Beaches are 15-20 minutes down the road?

Art lovers, history buffs and those looking for something to do besides the beach, Wilmington also has Thalian Hall, the brand new gem at Cape Fear, it’s Performing Arts Center, tons of museums and more are available for all age groups.

Shopping, dining, recreation and even professional sports teams are located in Wilmington, too. New Hanover County has one of the best Parks and Recreation systems around. Something is always going on someplace.

To truly grasp the magic that is Wilmington, one must experience it firsthand. And who knows, while you are in town, you might just run into one of your favorite TV or movie personalities.
