Tucked away just south of the Historic Downtown Wilmington area is a neighborhood registered on the National Register of Historic Places. The company remained listed as a reserve standby until sometime in the 1950s when it was liquidated. Today, it is part of the Port of Wilmington. Taking a river cruise will allow one to see remnants of the shipyard that are still visible today.
Sunset Park also has an illustrious film tradition as scenes from “Blue Velvet” were filmed there as were scenes from the last season of Andy Griffith’s “Matlock.” The house that was used as Matlock’s home is in Sunset Park.
