Hampstead

Hampstead
Hampstead is a small, unincorporated community that is growing by leaps and bounds. If you are driving from Wilmington to Jacksonville, Hampstead is just about your half-way marker. But, it’s more than that.
The community gets its name from a community of the same name in England. And just like an English village, it has its own charm. But to see and experience that charm, one must venture off U.S. Highway 17 and meander through the many neighborhoods off the beaten path.
Home to four golf courses, if golf is your sport or you just dream of living on or near the golf course, Hampstead is the place for you.
Are you a history buff or just looking for family activities? Hampstead is/was home to two well-known Plantations: Belvidere and Poplar Grove. Poplar Grove is the site of many family related activities as well as a weekly Farmers Market.
Sadly, the Belvidere Plantation house no longer stands. The Belvedere Plantation Golf Course now stands on the property. But the story of the house is interesting. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places, sold in 2005 to developers. They allowed the Sloop Point Volunteer Fire Department to burn it down as an exercise in 2006.
Home to the annual “Spot Festival,” Hampstead proudly wears the title of “Seafood Capital of the Carolinas.” Each year, thousands venture to Hampstead to attend the “Spot Festival.” Well over 6,000 dinners are served to help this, the area’s largest fundraising event which benefits the schools and the community. The festival is held annually on the last weekend in September.
A community dedicated to families, the area has three elementary schools, one middle school and one high school. To learn more about these schools, click here.
To deliver a sense of security for your family, the area is served by two volunteer fire departments. The Hampstead Volunteer Fire Department and the Sloop Point Volunteer Fire Department are both just moments away from any home or business in the Hampstead area. And for medical emergencies, the Pender EMS is always on the ready, too. Police protection is provided by the Pender County Sheriff’s Department. Actually, Hampstead is also home to the Topsail Composite Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol.
If you have never visited Hampstead, you will be charmed by it and love its central location between Wilmington and Jacksonville as well as the fact that it is a mere 15 minute drive to Topsail Island. The Island is to three beaches: North Topsail, Surf City and Topsail Beach. These three beaches combine to offer an astounding 27 miles of beach.
If you have visited Hampstead in the past, be prepared to be amazed at how much it has grown. Its population is now over 4,000. And it’s growing daily!
